Valvoline Extends Sponsorship of Super League Youth Competitions

Motor oil brand Valvoline has extended its title sponsorship of Super League’s under-20s and under-18s competitions until the end of the 2012 season. The under-20s competition, which includes Super League sides that can only field three over-age players, will continue to be known as the Valvoline Cup and the under-18s competition will continue as the Valvoline Academy.

Paul Kimberley, the RFL’s Commercial Director, said: “Rugby League clubs are producing more and more quality young players that are making their mark in the professional game. This is visible in the 2010 Four Nations England team and in the current Engage Super League, highlighting just how important the development of young players is to the sport.

“This is why our under-20s and under-18s competitions are so important, and is a sign of just how rich they are in talent that a multi-national brand such as Valvoline is extending the sponsorship of the respective competitions. Their investment will help raise the profile of the competitions and provide a platform for the superb youngsters in this country to showcase their skills.”

Tony Lowe, Valvoline’s Commercial Manager for UK and Ireland said, “We initially got involved with Rugby League in the 2009 Four Nations and found great benefit from our sponsorship, which led us to sponsoring the under-20s and under-18s competitions. We really enjoy our involvement with the sport and are delighted to continue our partnership.

The Valvoline Cup kicked off the new season on February 18 and the Valvoline Academy is due to begin on April 1. Valvoline is a major sponsor of a variety of international motor racing events and competitions, including the NASCAR and drag racing circuits in the U.S, as well as rally car, motorcycle and off-road racing teams elsewhere around the world.
