ScottishPower announces sponsorship of women and girls football

ScottishPower has agreed a three-year partnership/sponsorship deal with Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) and the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL). The six-figure partnership deal will see ScottishPower aim to energise women’s football at every age and stage, with the renewable energy company becoming the exclusive Principal Partner for Scottish Women’s Football and the Scottish Women’s Premier League, sponsoring the Scottish Youth Challenge Cups at all three age groups as well as the Scottish Women’s Highlands and Islands League.

The partnership is dedicated to further developing the women’s game at the top level with the SWPL and its 20 member clubs, inspiring more young girls into the game and opening doors for players in remote communities across the Highlands & Islands.

The sponsorship will be activated internally and externally with ScottishPower’s existing Communications agency being appointed to maximise the sponsorship through creative content, activations and PR.

Further activations planned throughout the partnership include a ‘PowerPlayers’ content series to take fans behind the scenes of SWPL clubs and shine a light on the women’s game, as well as interactive player engagement work with the Youth Challenge Cup and Highland and Islands League to inspire players across Scotland.

The partnership is the latest extension in ScottishPower’s parent company Iberdrola’s drive to promote equality through sport. Working in Spain and Brazil since 2016, Iberdrola supports more than 100 competitions, 32 of them as Iberdrola leagues, reaching an estimated 600,000 female athletes.

Julie Keough, Brand and Reputation Director at ScottishPower, said: “This is a landmark moment for women’s football across Scotland and it’s important we have a creative communications strategy to match. We’re incredibly proud to support women and girls’ football and play a role in driving equality in the sport and helping to provide the platform and infrastructure that the game deserves.”

Juliet Simpson, CEO at Stripe Communications, commented: “As a female led organisation, the opportunity to work on this means so much to us. It’s a privilege to be part of a movement to truly revolutionise the women’s game and we’re excited to work closely with ScottishPower, the SWPL and SWF over the coming years. Our creative moments throughout the partnership will help push boundaries and get people talking about all the amazing aspects of the women’s game throughout the country.”

Fiona McIntyre, Managing Director of the SWPL, added: “With interest in the women’s game at an all-time high, there is an incredible opportunity to inspire both current and future generations through this exclusive new partnership. We are delighted with the fantastic commitment ScottishPower has shown through this significant investment into the women’s game. This is a triumph of collaboration that will take the SWPL and women’s football in Scotland to new levels over the coming years”
