Power of Poetry kickstarts tour across the North

The Power of Poetry – four  mobile artworks – will begin a tour across the North of England on the 13th October until November 19th, as part of the Rugby League World Cup Cultural Festival.

Inspired by the Rugby League World Cup strapline 'The Power of Together', artist and poet Robert Montgomery has joined forces with Emergency Exit Arts and eight leading poets, to create four, striking, double-sided light poems. The mobile poems explore themes of inclusivity, the sound of the stadium, the joy of reconnecting through sports post-lockdowns and the dynamic nature of rugby league.

Mounted on the back of trailers, the poems will journey across the North of England with all four stopping off at locations in and around Rugby League World Cup Cultural Festival partner cities - Newcastle, Leeds, Hull and Greater Manchester - from civic squares, to stadiums, libraries and local rugby league clubs.

The Power of Poetry tour will begin at Light Night Leeds on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th October, before heading to Newcastle City Centre where all four poems will be displayed at the inaugural game of the Rugby League World Cup on Saturday 15th October.  Here sports fans and general audience will also be able to see another Cultural Festival project The Power of Performance: This is Us!, an outdoor performance combining dance, music and aerial performance.
