Lloyds TSB Sponsors Scottish Schools Football

Former Scotland and schoolboys international Gordon Strachan has given his backing to a new two year partnership between Lloyds TSB Scotland and the Scottish Schools’ Football Association.
Strachan, who started his playing career as a schoolboy with Silverknowes Primary in Edinburgh and went on to score for Scotland at the World Cup Finals in Mexico ’86, will provide support in his role as Lloyds TSB Scotland Schools’ Football Ambassador.
The partnership sees Lloyds TSB Scotland provide comprehensive support of the inter-schools’ football programme in Scotland – a key stage in the development of Scotland’s young football talent – as well as the U15 Girls and U18 Boys International Squads. Over 25,000 school children will participate in a Lloyds TSB Scotland supported programme in 2011.
Gordon Strachan, Lloyds TSB Scotland Schools’ Football Ambassador, said: “I have very fond memories of playing inter-schools’ competitions and for Scotland as part of the U15’s national squad. Schools’ football is a vital component to the continued development of young players and the Schools’ Football Association should be applauded for the fantastic work that they do year in, year out on a voluntary basis. It’s great to see Lloyds TSB Scotland supporting football at a grassroots level.”
Peter Navin, Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Scotland, said: “We are delighted to support the Scottish Schools’ Football Association and help develop Scotland’s young talent. Lloyds TSB Scotland believes it is important to offer a wide range of competitive sporting platforms on which our young people can improve and shine.”
Rod Houston, President of the Scottish Schools’ Football Association, added: “The Association exists to provide opportunities for young people of all ages to enjoy playing football and organises a wide range of activities for that to happen. Quite simply, were it not for this partnership, many young people would not have the opportunity to take part in schools football. That is the measure of our appreciation of the contribution being made by Lloyds TSB Scotland.”
