Investec Extends Sponsorship Of Derby, Poundland Enters The Course

Bank and asset manager Investech has extended its existing Derby Festival sponsorship at Epsom Downs Racecourse for a further five years, to take the sponsorship through until 2026.

Investec’s sponsorship of the Derby Festival began in 2009 in a five year deal which was extended for a further ten years in 2011 taking the sponsorship to 2021. This further extension will see Investec’s sponsorship run up to and including the 2026 Investec Derby, a partnership of 18 years in total.

Investec has also announced a new partner in Steinhoff International, owners of British high street retailer Poundland. Poundland’s partnership will see the brand activate on the famous ‘Hill’ area of Epsom Downs Racecourse beginning this June. The ‘Poundland Hill’ enables families and racing fans to continue to enjoy world-class racing and entertainment from the heart of Epsom’s Downs for free.

The deal also sees Investec continue its sponsorship of the Investec Spring Meeting, Epsom’s season opener and the launch of Investec’s Road to The Derby. As the first Derby trial race the Investec Derby Trial also offers a wild-card entry into the feature race of the Festival, the Investec Derby.

Phil White, Regional Director of the Jockey Club’s London region, said: “Investec have been a fantastic partner of the Investec Derby and supporter of British racing. We are delighted to have them on board for another ten years. The Investec team show their passion and dedication for this special event in their activation at every level of the Investec Derby Festival.”

Malcolm Fried, Global Head of Marketing at Investec said: “We are proud to have extended our sponsorship of the Investec Derby Festival, an event that shares our values of energy, passion and outstanding talent. The Investec Derby has given back so much to our brand over the years, and we are committed to ensuring it remains the greatest flat race in the world.”

Poundland trading director Barry Williams commented: “All of Britain loves the Derby and as the people’s store, we’re looking forward to helping make the people’s hill at Epsom one of the best ways for the family to experience The Derby at Epsom,” said Barry.

This year’s Investec Derby Festival will take place on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd June 2017.
