SPONSORSPARTNERS
HSBC has confirmed its sponsorship of Asia House’s forthcoming exhibition ‘The Flamboyant Mr Chinnery (1774-1852) An English Artist in India and China’, as part of the bank’s global Cultural Exchange programme. The exhibition will be on view at Asia House, 63 New Cavendish Street, London W1, from 4 November 2011 to 21 January 2012.
A long-standing supporter of Asia House, the leading pan-Asian organisation in Britain, HSBC was a founder stakeholder at its formation in 1996. A non-profit, non-political organisation, its aims of promoting appreciation and understanding of Asian countries, their arts, religions and economies, and of fostering closer communication between the peoples of Asia and Europe, chime with those of the bank’s Cultural Exchange programme. As part of HSBC’s support of the exhibition, the bank is loaning 18 works from its corporate art collections in Hong Kong and London.
Sir John Boyd, Chairman, Asia House, said: “HSBC has provided strong and consistent support for Asia House since its inception fifteen years ago which has enabled us to mount programmes and exhibitions of world-class quality. We value this deeply. This unique exhibition of Chinnery’s works, many of which are held by HSBC in their collections in Great Britain and Hong Kong, represents the most significant showing of the artist’s works in over half a century and would not be possible without HSBC’s generous sponsorship.”
The exhibition will comprise some 100 works showing Chinnery’s range, from oils to watercolours and from landscapes and portraits. Exhibits will be drawn from major UK institutions such as the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, National Portrait Gallery, British Library, The Courtauld Gallery, as well as from private collections and HSBC’s corporate art collection. The majority of the loans have not been seen by the British public before.
