SPONSORSPARTNERS
BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management will continue to donate the sponsorship of The Boat Race for a third year to Cancer Research UK through to The Boat Race 2018 on Saturday 24th March 2018.
The companies’ five-year sponsorship of The Boat Race has seen some ground-breaking firsts, most notably the move of The Women's Boat Race to The Championship Course in London with equality in stature and funding. This was followed by a world first, the donation of the title rights of the sponsorship to Cancer Research UK, thereby creating The Cancer Research UK Boat Races in 2016 and 2017.
Cancer Research UK will benefit from branding on all crew kit for race day and training and will receive prominent branding along the Championship Course on the River Thames. In addition to this BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management will continue to support the charity and raise funds to support the vital research to help beat cancer sooner.
The Boat Race Company Chairman Robert Gillespie, said: “We are delighted BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management have agreed to sponsor this iconic event for a further year as we look for a new long-term partner. They have been at the forefront of pushing boundaries with their sponsorship, and with them we have seen key milestones in the development of the Race. We look forward to another year as ‘The Cancer Research UK Boat Race’ which has been a tremendous success for us all.”
Mitchell Harris, Chief Executive Officer at BNY Mellon Investment Management, added: Over time, we have been brave in pushing forward for equality in The Men’s Boat Race and The Women’s Boat Race as well as our donation to Cancer Research UK. We are looking forward to sponsoring the Race for a final time in 2018 and donating that to Cancer Research UK.”
In 2017, BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management’s ‘Pull Together’ campaign helped to spearhead the asset management industry into joining forces to support Cancer Research UK through a year-long series of fundraising initiatives called CASCAID. CASCAID brings together many industry firms to create a series of challenges to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK. It has already successfully raised £1.4 million against its end of year target of £2 million.
